We're seeing this in the forklift industry as well. There are a few brands that if there is a code, you are restricted to calling a dealer. No way to buy software to interface with them.

I understand locking the computer for liability purposes but it's BS that a 3rd party can't work on them. I think legislation stating that the 3rd parts assumes liability would be sufficient. I look for this to get worse as cars transition to electric.
