And amazingly, this has been one of the warmest Januarys on record (globally).

We've been having a crappy time because of this aberration with this "Arctic Blast" which is basically a weakening of the winds that normally protect us from the arctic air mass. If you look at the map in the article, the east half of the US is the only area experiencing below normal temperatures:

Here on the west coast where our temps have been in the high 70's and even in the 80's with no rain, we are finally expected to get some rain starting Thursday, then continuing through the weekend. This is the first major storm here in 2 years.

Woke up to about an inch of snow on the ground.. At least the roads were clear.. But I'm done with this white crap... So glad I got my remote starter installed a couple of weekends ago.. Every time I walk to our bedroom window and start my car my wife glares at me. I reply "I told you to leave your car here this weekend so I could install it, did you?" lol

Detroit is experiencing the most extreme weather of any city in the country, the Associated Press reported Tuesday. That report was based on an index created by National Weather Service meteorologist Barbara Mayes Boustead.

Boustead’s analysis, based on cold temperatures and snowfall, found that Detroit is in the middle of its harshest winter since 1950. Detroit has had 6.5 feet of snow so far this winter and 100 days of below-freezing temperatures.

Keep your polar vortex to yourself!
It snowed continuously for 3 days here, from Saturday to Monday in Surrey (Metro Vancouver) B.C., Canada.
We had 14 inches of snow at my house. Here is a picture just before I shoveled on Sunday when we only had 8 inches of snow.

That looks about like our 1rst snow here in early December. There's been much more since and it's still here, hasn't melted.

Nuby1Canuby that was less snow on your roof then I had a month plus ago before I went to florida . I used a roof rake on my house then to remove it . when I got back home we had like 14-24 inch more snow on the roof. but to late to use the rake seeing the ice dams had already formed. wife had hher hands full just trying to keep paths open to walk in the house and from the shed to use are snow blower so she could do are driveway. She was so happy for me to get home means her days of using the snow shovel and snow blower are over .she keeping a 24 inch push broom in her car to clear snow off it .yes we been getting hammered when it comes down.
on a side note -I was shocked yesterday we seen a guy on a roof clearing it with a snow shovel. I think from the looks of it he was clearing it to apply new shingles . my thoughts were glad im to old to be doing that crap. we shingle roof's year round when I younger. fyi guys if you have ice dams on your roof's get some calcium chloride (not rock salt ) put it in you wifes or girlfriends old pantyhose and toss it up onto the ice dams to help safely melt it . calcium chloride is safe for shingle roofs ~

We have rain in Southern CA! I haven't seen a storm like this in 2 years. All the previous storms dump only 0.25 inches or less of rain. Our normal yearly rain fall is ~10 inches.
