Yet another new project! EV motorcycle *updated* aug 7
I know you guys are used to all my water cooling crap and that no longer impressive nor is it out of the ordinary. but i just started a project that i think you may find interesting.
An EV motorcycle.
I will be taking pictures at every step of this venture and unfortunately i have been told that simply posting the images back to back sucks. so i have got an image host to do it for me.

I will be posting all images there as i progress and i will be adding updates near weekly.
progress:

Motors have just arrived. http://i.imgur.com/dVSgB.jpg http://i.imgur.com/hgQ10.jpg
The circuit diagram for the motor control. http://i.imgur.com/RTmlU.jpg Any of you electrical engineer guys out there can tell me if i did something wrong please point it out. the 2 50k resisters are to simulate a 100k pot.

each motor exerts 2.5 horsepower and i will be putting them both on the chain in parallel. i dont know what that is in foot pounds but i do know that when i overvolt the motors i can get 30HP spikes out of it.Err wrote:About how much torque will each motor deliver Sov?

I posted this before but here's a guy who converted his 1971 Plymouth Duster into an EV: http://electricmopar.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2008-09-21T17%3A46%3A00-05%3A00&max-results=10GuardianAsher wrote:Why not? It's fun. Like last night, I tried installing Windows 98 on an old Athlon XP system I got, for the heck of it. (On a side note, it didn't work at all)
Best of luck with the project. I've decided when my Cavalier dumps out, I'm going to figure out how to EV it. Maybe.
He lists the pasts he used also.

Yeah, I had been following this since you posted it a while back. It's pretty much the reason I even thought about doing it to my Cavalier. One of the big issues I see though will be the fact that he was doing this on a rear-wheel car with a pretty good sized engine bay, and my car is front-wheel drive with an engine bay about 3/4 of the size. Take into account that I'd probably still have to have the transmission in the engine bay, and it might just be too much of a hassle.
It really is a shame that he canceled the project. I would have loved to see what would come of it.

nope i wont be needing a transmission the rpm's on the motors im using is 6700 which is scary fast.normalicy wrote:Technically, a transmission isn't necessary. In fact, it really isn't. Though, running both front axles would be. So I guess it is
There's quiet a few people who have successfully converted a Geo Metros. Just searching Electric Geo will give a plethora of EV knowledge.

I was specifically responding to GuardianAsher since he's doing a car. Gotta either have a motor on each axle or have a transmission to split the power.TheSovereign wrote:nope i wont be needing a transmission the rpm's on the motors im using is 6700 which is scary fast.
But yeah, no need for any tranmission on a bike. Saves weight/space for the batteries too.
