Tour alcatraz, its definately worth the money for the boat ride out.

Check out the redwoods Big Sur, just a short drive north of there across the bridge (the big one, also very cool).
Fisherman's warf. Ride the street cars. Sea lions at Monterey (S of there by a bit). Get a dark green '68 Mustang fastback and play Bullet going down the steep hills ;)
I was there in '75 (a while ago) but today, google it for ideas (places to go, restaurants, etc). That's what I do anytime I travel.

Best drive in the world is taking the 1 south as you go along the beach. It will take to you Hurst Castle, Morro Bay, and Pismo Beach.

LOL what people will build. I've been on those dunes, but I go and rent a quad right here in Pismo for 2 hours of fun @ $60.
