Our #s on the list yet telemarketers still call daily. I report those names, numbers yet they still call.

I don't answer and talk to them, but we'll look at the caller ID.

Sure it's a telemarketer? Things like "Opinions poll", "Pub Interest group".......yeah, BS.

I have not received ANY calls in 2 years since I put my name on the list.

I still get some despite being on the do not call list. Not as bad as it used to be though.

I never answer - I let the machine filter all my calls - but you know it's a telemarketer if they hang up as soon as the answering machine picks up. Sometimes the caller ID gives a company name sometimes not, but if you Google the phone number you'll find out pretty quick if it's a telemarketer.

Two reasons you continue getting calls:

#1 is if you EVER write your phone number on anything (like a drawing entry at a Home Show for instance) or give it to the cashier at a retail store when they ask (you can refuse unless you're paying with a check BTW) you have essentially given them permission to solicit you and legally voided your Do Not Call list request.

#2 is that the Do Not Call list does not apply to telemarketers operating outside the U.S. A lot of the nastier ones have relocated to Canada.

I still get calls on all 3 of my numbers that are on the do not call list

I'm thinking that (like my e-mail addy), maybe it's time to change phone # too (land line).
Sure, like FP I too always let the machine filter my calls unless I know the #. Anyone who wants to reach us will leave a message, no doubt.

It's gotten worse since I switched phone providers. We've had the same # for 10 years, since we bought this house but lately I switch providers to whoever has the best deal.
Had Vonage and although I had no probs with them, my wife did after being on the phone for hours (lots of noises). Tryed AT&T which was initially $30 but then jumped to $40 after a year so now I'm with Time Warner because they had a deal, $19.95 for a year when you have Roadrunner.
If it were up to me, I'd ditch the land line completely but my wife wants it because she doesn't want to carry her cell around the house all day. I never get unwanted calls on my cell btw.
We also use to be unlisted but I opted to list this time because I didn't feel it was worth another $5 per month to be unlisted. We'd get plenty of telemarketers even when we use to be unlisted too.

this is why your getting slammed by telemarketers.
it sucks they charge you that much . $60 a year to be unlisted is a bit steep.and i bet its your phone company selling your no. .in zip code area's by the sheet . they can make a ton of extra $$$$$$ way more then the $60 they want to charge you to unlist it . like they say to be unlisted and they mean just that .

I have used it for years and it works real good for me. Minnesota used to have it's own list so you had to be both on the state and federal list. Alot of states have their own lists so you need to apply for both. Minnesota now uses the federal list and it is great. You should report any calls that keep bothering you tho, so it will work.
Cel phones can now be listed also which I highly recommend doing to save you air time charges.

Have you always used VoIP providers? Might that have something to do with it?

As with others, I've been on it since the beginning and the only calls I get are Leukemia Society, etc. looking for donations and the occasional pollster. My POTS number is listed in the phone book, btw.

IIRC, the Do Not Call list was found unconstitutional so telemarketers can ignore it, but must said they would still honor it at the time. Did that change?

It does if the company sponsoring the telemarketing calls is located within the US.

Are telemarketing calls from overseas covered?

Yes. Any telemarketers calling U.S. consumers are covered, regardless of where they are calling from. If a company within the U.S. solicits sales through an overseas professional telemarketer, that U.S. company may be liable for any violations by the telemarketer. The FTC can initiate enforcement actions against such companies.

They still do it. One of the most notorious ones has a Canadian caller ID number. You Google the number and find out they call representing all kinds of American companies from Bank of America to Sears. Unless they've finally put a stop to them. Haven't had that number call in a few months.
