LOL I never would have guessed your almost 50. I'm 51, and I've had blood problems:
1. At 17(1972), I had small red spots on both my legs below the knee. It stung when I walked. Went to the doctor, told me to rest, didn't, and they simply went away.
2. At 31, these same spots come back, and now it's more serious. It's caused by a platelet count that goes up and down. Go on some drugs, but nothing works so I have to have my spleen removed. Have it removed, but still the same problem (I did not bet the odds). So then I go to Scripps Clinic in La Jolla and talk to a blood specialist. They have me try some type of male hormones. Problem goes away.
3. 1997 at 42, I get a blood clot in my right leg. Very painful. Now I'm on blood thinners, as I have to take 3mg of Coumadin every day for the rest of my life. After a extensive blood analysis, they discovered I have a gene defect from birth - protein C deficiency. Why does it show up later in life? Your metabolism slows down in your mid 30's, so it comes to life.
4. 2006, I'm border line with high blood pressure, so I now have to take Macartus every day.

Jeez...getting old sucks. At least my eyes are doing OK. I don't need glasses to see, as I have a special setup from the doc: I use bifocal contacts with mono-vision so I'm able to see far away and still read the paper with no glasses.

What, only 3 meds? I can't believe the # of meds I now take everyday for high blood pressure, arthritus in my hands and acid reflux. My wife (who's 2 yrs older than me) also takes a ton of meds for various problems and it seems like I'm at Walgreens daily picking up more meds or refills.
Remember being a kid and wondering why your grandparents medicine cabinet was chucked full of drugs? Now we know why.....sucks too.
I turn 50 in less than 3 months, no choice in the matter. Then there's my vision which use to be perfect but now, I have to wear reading glasses if I want to read most things now and especially in the morning.
At work, everyone jokes about me being the old man of the shop as I'm one of the oldest now. Doesn't seem like that long ago when I was young either.

I'm 52 and all my vitals are normal. I attribute it to eating healthy, exercising daily and not being overweight. I get occasional aches and pains (usually from over doing it at the gym) but nothing that I have to take meds for. Of course tomorrow I could be doing some intense cardio on the treadmill and keel over from a heart attack (wouldn't that be ironic)

Wow Red. Haven't seen you for a while. Hope you are doing well.

My only health problem is being overweight, but if I was at my weight, I still would be on Coumadin since I have a gene defect from birth. My blood pressure would probably be somewhat in the normal range, so I would be off the blood pressure medication.

Kinda helps when you are the medic/doctor, and you don't need to go to sickcall (or the health clinic).... I mean I got all the access to the world to the 'fun' meds, but never had a need to take them...

Back in Iraq though...
1 for sleeping, and 1 to quit smoking (neither of them worked after 5 days so I quit both). You'd be amazed, an anti-depressant mixed with a sleep aid should equal comotosis, but in my case ended up making me stay up longer. Maybe I'm drug resistant (seeems to be the case except for motrin, and naproxen for pain) or I just don't know how to shut down and do a cold boot in the morning....

Age 46.

Synthroid to replace the hormone my thyroid no longer produces because they had to kill it off with radiation when I was in my 20s (I had an over-active thyroid - Graves Disease - runs in the family).

Terrazosin to let me pee. I have a restricted prostate, but not an an enlarged one (those of you who are over 50 and don't have prostate problems yet, oh just wait...)

That's it. No family history of cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Everyone in my family lives well into their 90s if they take care of themselves.

I exercise a lot: gym once a week at least, and maintaining 20 acres of property is exercise all by itself. Excellent blood pressure, low cholesterol numbers.

Don't like taking pills. Don't even take aspirin unless I have a high fever.

Oh, near perfect vision up until 2 years ago. Classic mid-40s flip a switch and suddenly you need reading glasses. Still getting used to that crap.

You are lucky.... here's my little bio...

Age: 24

Fam History: Cancer, High Cholestrol, Diabetes, Dyslexia, and usual Male life expectancy of 60's.

Exercise: In the army, do it everyday.

Hate taking pills, but sometimes have to (naproxen). Been exposed to so many IED's that my spinal column shoots pure pain shots from the C1 Vertebra all the way to Cocyx4 Vertebra. Middle ear damage to the extreme so that my eustation tubes (tubes that vetelate the middle ear from the throat) are scarred. Perfect hearing though, just have a constant everchanging pitch ringing when affected with sinusitis (so 11 months out of the year, annoying ringing sound). Vision was 20/25 before the army, now 20/15 both eyes. Have chemical dependency on adreanline (you know the shakes after something really fun/scary) but it's dying down... you'd be amazed what a rush it is to fix someone on the ER table, or get hit by an IED. I have decent blood pressure but to ensure my salt intake is lowered killed all pork product intake. Both ankles have so much 'looseness' it sounds like firecrackers on the 4th of july, same with knees, fingers, and hips, arms. Amazing how combat boots help out that situation (hence why I'm getting out, but keeping the boots on). For the Cancer, errrm yeah got to stop that wonderful smoking (espically them newports), also the prostate thing. Been working on that.... there are a few dark katsups with a chemical (think it's calle liposine, don't quote me) but I'm inhaling that dark kastups, and another story (or white lie) from those mags we read.... orgasams help when your in the 20's.... yeah it's a great excuse ain't it?. For my Lexdyslia..... yeah got that one, but it's extremely minor. Diabetes.... holy crap does that one scare the bageebers even out of me. Just packed on 30 lbs since redeploying from iraq (went back to 180) and yeah diet control has kicked in for me. Stress is another thing huge in my life.... holy crap, just yesterday someone noticed my tailpipe was busted off the welds on the undercarrage of my truck.... seems like everyday another straw is added to this camel's back.... can't wait till i totally flip out, but I'm usually very mellow (unless being shot at or blown up... IED's), unlike the usless banter I post here from time to time.

Well, can't wait for 25, coming pretty soon!

Pickachu please take care man. Little worried about you after reading that.

I'll soon be 46.
Only on one med right now.. Zanex (alprazolam).
It prevents adreanline rushes in a situiations were you feel the need to get out of, for example a crowed, or line you standing in. ect.. In other words it prevents panic attacks. I've been dealing with since I was 20 and been dealing with it since.
UNTIL I had finally had enough and went to the doc (Had to find a place here in the cities because I hadn't been to a doc in 20 years)
Told him eveyting an he assured me its common and precribed those. (Zanex)
While I was talking to him I asked about antidepressants as I just got divorced. So he recommeds
Celsia
Got both and found the anti's didn't do a thing. A month on the those and no change and quit
taking them. Like Picachu said "there is not a true happy pill".. IMHO there might be one but I ain't
going to get addicted to vikatin <--sp? That makes warm and fuzzy all day for me anyway! Don't
want anything addictive like that. Oh hell no!

Just on the Zanex for a year now and they work. Just gotta take one before a situation. Thats the hard part. Also the effect is not pleasant if you just take one for the heck of it. You get nothing from it but a feeling of moving slower (but your not) and nothing should be rushed.

As for family history.. real clean. Grama will turn 99 in two months. :)
GeForce GTX 970
AMD FX 8350 8 core Processor

Seems plenty good for gaming! :)

Koo Koo,

Hey don't worry too much about me, it's only ceartin times them spinal pains happen... like when I'm positioned all funky. For the loose joints, it's more common than you think, but good thing happened today... right ankle just finally popped the bone back into it proper shape, no more snap crackle pop for that one. The ears... hmm IED's and middle ear infections... fun stuff... takes a 239 pressure and it fils .9ml both sides... so basically sinuses = ringing in my ears. Iraqi sand is this fine clay... well that crud is still coming out of my sinuses (nothing like an Iraqi sand storm, I was in that storm)

It's Vicodin, and for the anti's.... for some it works, and others it don't. Don't think hey Pikachu, that army medic said anti's don't work and Koo Koo agrees. Still go get checked out ok!
