. i been to the General Motors proving grounds. and they have a area were they hold meetings that are completely outside . I'm talking its a open table and chair area .like a open feld concert area .and it can be 100 degrees out .and may seat 500 or more people .and they run these huge air conditioners .to keep it at 65 degree on all these people .so they dont get a sweat . im not sure how many times a year they run it. but im sure its a lot .

More power to them for that engineering feat. Heck there are several projects, sites, resorts, in every country (even the US) that could be considered excessive. Heck, look at Los Vegas as an example. They have a successful product that others are willing to buy which gives them the ability to build a product such as an indoor ski area. Should we expect them to sell us Gas for cheap and they live in small houses in the desert with no ammenities? This would be very similar to a water park in an dry climate, which are everywhere in the states.

I dissagree looking at this construction as a bad thing and related to high gas prices in the US. I am sure they collect funds from the use of the facility thus justifying the expendature. They have a rich city, Dubi, heavy with tourism ... just look at the hotel in the background as an example. I see this as healthy to their society. Do we expect to be the only successful place on the globe and expect other countries to have a moderate existance?

If people think this construction is a bad thing and part of the cause of high gas prices, I sugges a car pool. Buy less gas, therefore 'they' could not build anymore sites like this.

The UAE is very rich, kids use medecedes benz in burnout contests there and practically through the c ars away like toilet paper, I knew a guy that worked for exxon and lived over there for 25+ years

If you mean it's Photoshopped, Bell, it's not. That's an actual indoor ski slope in Dubai. It's located next their major expensive hotel area. Probably built by the Japanaese - the Japs love those indoor ski slopes.

Well you can't only blame the Saudis. Let us not forget that in the midst of tight oil, low supplies and natural disasters that damaged oil rigs and refineries, GW's good buddies over at Exxon-Mobile also made a record $36 billion in profits last year.... hmmm....

Indoor skiing when it's blazingly hot outdoors? Truely a great idea and I'd probably even get back into skiing again IF I lived in hot place that had that, like in southern AZ for example. As it is here in winter, when it's below 20F outside I never want to do anything outside anymore vs staying indoors where it's warm.

I watched a ting on the TV about how they build that. seems kinda a waste the way they did it. all that empty space under the slope could have been built and and a hotell could have been put there. then when they constructed it they could have doen it the normal way.

Damn ignorance must be bliss, but the way I see it is look how many freeking homes and apartment buildings businesses etc.. etc.. we have over here compared to their numbers. I mean come on. Also on that note im sure they pollute far less into the atmosphere than we do. Southern Pride will **** it up for all of us.

As for rising gas prices in the US, last summer the #1 excuse why US oil companies raised our prices substantially was blamed on hurricanes and their effects on US oil companies. They're already talking about raising this upcoming summers prices again to over $3 per gallon and that's BEFORE any more hurricanes hit.

The funniest thing to me is that they made over $30 BILLION profit last year.. Sounds like a scam to me.. If they're making that much money off of us then the least they could do is return some of it.. Sheesh..

Crude oil is approx 60 a barrel. Now that can account for approximately 1/2 to 5/8 the price.... the rest is derived from the fact our REFINING aspect of it hasn't gotten an increase since 1980's or so it seems. So no matter how much we import, we can only cap out that sweet fuel at a fixed maximum rate. So supply and demand is the major fact of the price.... it's a buyer's market, utalize it and see how much damage can happen if the entire country agreed to halt purchases for a week.

Sorry, this one's pinned on capatalism, we need 2 things.... more refineries, and better fuel consumption rates... till then suck it up cause 2.50 a gallon isn't bad at all, compared to the nearly 6.15 a gallon overseas (euro and liter conversion included).

Yes and those are US companies. They've been asked about that yet claim that they have NO IDEA why they somehow made so much extra profit last year and no one in government (that could make a difference) seems to be trying to do anything about that either.

Actually don't delude yourself into thinking these are and large U.S. COMPANIES anymore - there aren't any.

All realy large companies are actually MULTINATIONAL companies and thus their best interests rarely coincide with US national interests (understandably so).

So when the administration wants to give a large "U.S. COMPANY" some kind of break in the hopes that it will stimulate the U.S. economy I have to laugh. These companies are just as likely to spend their money overseas as here in America.

People need to wake up and realize this is a GLOBAL ECONOMY now.
