Is PCA dying?
I know that EvilHorace and I discussed this a week ago via a PM during a Doom3 discussion. It seems to the both of us that PCA has lost several members, specifically within the last six months to a year or so. Some of the regulars that I remember are:
wesg
vwkess
cobosdan
Reg Kmet
renovation
Frost
Raymond Kim
Speck102
Snatchface
Rezillo
Schwartz
Ladies Man
DirkBelig
Sexy Pid
plucky duck
Corn
poop
Demrok
Zyph
Scooter
Weekend Warrior
KiLLerCloWn
Some haven't posted in years, while others are just a few months. Anyone have any thoughts?

It's strange, perhaps less poeple have PC related issues, less build their own PCs now or (gasp!)........could they now be at a site known as 'Anands'
I truely hope not.
Anyone here ever read their ATOT top (favorite) posts? Many pages of BS, posters with over 70K posts within a few years and I suspect the overall age their is less than 18, way too young for a geezer like me.

i think evilHorace is right, theres so much information out there now people dont need to turn to these forums for help, ive had a look at toms forums and a few other places its just a bunch of posts all about the same thing "what GFX will give me the most bang for the buck" there aint any technical issues like "why does my computer do this?" mainly cause somewhere out there with a quick google you can solve just about any computer related problem these forums have been around a long time and they wont pick back up untill technology changes so much that we dont recognise a computer by todays standards.

here is my take of the whole picture .
with a lot of people today they dont have the time or the money .to build there own computer .seeing you can buy a brand new one with a flat panel monitor for under $500 us .
and its to confusing to a lot of people what video card to get ,what memory to use and so on.
then there the fact you can buy a xbox or play station at just about every store you walk into and find way more choices of games and not have to worry if its going to cost you more money .to upgrade your computer to play the game . also there way more portable to take around .
i feel computers are are going to stay in the home but more for what they were designed for . not heavy gaming . but for internet ,digital pictures ,word processing , light gaming . and some media playing .
hell why spend $300- $600 for a video card to play a $49.99 game .when the same game can be played on a tv set .with 2 people or more . for $49.99 and you can carry the game to a friends and play it there and not have to worry about scraching a disk or worst .or having to load a reg. code . and spending 20 mins loading the game up on the computer to find his computer wont handle it !
with a xbox you know its just drop and play !

I think bellringer has a good point, I play RTS on the PC now, that's it. Everything else I play on my gamecube (with my kids) or my xbox for adult style gaming. I have decided not to upgrade my computer for as long as humanly possible. Even though I stay a few cycles behind the newest stuff I was still upgrading once every six months to play a game. When I started thinking about upgrading to play rome total invasion I stepped back and got off the cpu upgrade game.
Back to the point though, I think the real reason message boards are dying (it's not just this one I see drying up) is due to the popularity of blogs. I used to read three or four message boards a day to see what postings and links were there, now I read 5 or 6 blogs with great links, pictures and comments, the comments suplanting the old message board.
I think blogs will replace message boards for the most part, just the way the internet message board replaced the old BBS, man I loved a good BBS. Anyone else remember logging on to a BBS to find a multiplayer game?

Don't worry,
I'll be pca for life... And yes, I remember the good old days when the cpu/gpu meant a whole lot. I mean take a good look at lan parties, they are drying up as well. A few great lans just up and dissapeared in a matter of months. The xbox, when it first launched was a huge thing... I knew it was a lan party staple, I never could have thought that halo would have replaced counter-strike! Wow, I just took a look back... and yeah realized I was there, the old days of the 80386, with a math co-processor. All the way till now, athlon fx 57. A lot's changed in the years... So you think this is dead as well? I wouldn't forget it... remember we still have irc, and only the few still use it. bb's will still exist, mainly for our sources of entertainment... but hey, what's next... a xbox blogger?
Just for thought.... we'll still be here, some of the originals, and then some you picked up on the way!

I check PCA at least five times a day. At least. Usually, it's 30+. I love this forum. In fact, I didn't know there was such a thing as computer modding until I came here. And the concept just stuck in my mind. Now I have the neatest rig in the neighborhood, and I'm still working on it. And guess where I come to get advice on what to to with it...
PCA
I really don't think this place is dying. We still have some of the best, like FlyingPenguin, Pugsley, RubberDuckie for example, all of which I respect quite a bit, and there's still too many to list. Hell, I know I haven't been here for very long, but I plan on being here for a looooooong time...

seems to me like we are moving along on a pretty steady course. A lot of the how-to stuff we already know and as others have said with prices getting so low on playable gaming rigs a lot of the need for modding and overclocking has disappeared. Heck, I can play most games fine on my slightly modded $500 HP desktop at work. We have a hard core of very capable techies and overclockers and I think we are still one of the best in terms of helping folks.
folks will always come and go based on their interests.

Yea. I like it here. not too big and not too small. and everybody here has an opinion and can express it and know that its just that. No huge wars, not alot of drama.. just facts and opinions.
