Schiavo Autopsy Shows Massive Brain Damage

Post by renovation »

"The brain weighed 615 grams, roughly half of the expected weight of a human brain," he said. "This damage was irreversible, and no amount of therapy or treatment would have regenerated the massive loss of neurons."

( and her parents are total nuts )
{Regardless of the autopsy findings, the Schindlers continue to believe their daughter was not in a persistent vegetative state, their lawyer, David Gibbs III, said after Thogmartin's report. He said they plan to discuss the autopsy with other medical experts and may take some unspecified legal action. }

It was obvious that there wasn't anything anyone could do for her, but the way they let her die, they don't even allow animals to be treated so harshly in the US, and this is the year 2005.

She went peacefully - and this type of thing happens everyday, except in this case some folks wanted to stick their nose in where it wasn't needed....

No big suprise. They released a CAT scan made 4 years before she died and something like 50% of her brain had just dissolved away and become voids filled with cerebral-spinal fluid.

If by "peaceful," you mean being slowly dehydrated and starved to death of the course of two weeks.

Dehydration is a peaceful way to go... The body just starts shutting down, and the person drifts away...

and TruckStuff - people check out this way every single day... So save your rolling eyes and "indignation."

I dont know how you see that as "more humane" to me it sounds barbaric but I dont think she would have known the difference in her condition.

So what if she didnt feel a thing. Its about the treatment.

Could you imagine that the person you just let passaway felt every last moment of that. Sure you can say now we know for sure but this is why we fill bodies with the most lethal chemicals we can before they are laid to rest.
Its sad when we "treat" deathRow Inmats better then the ill.

nice edit
and i find it odd that most of u think she didnt "feel" it

hunger and thirst arent higher brain functions these things are hardwired
if she moved at all she felt these things. the court ordered to have a women now retarded to starve to death

u know last i checked fu**ing around with retarded people landed u my fist in your face

it seems no one here can fathom the fact that THE PARENTS WANTED TO TAKE CARE OF HER and her xhusband wanted her dead

its a moot point if she felt anything, its truly a sad world we live in when alot of people here think this is the correct choice

Why is that odd? That is what all the medical experts say and now after the autopsy they say her brain was totally incapable of the things her parents say she was doing like reacting to them and smiling at them and on top of it all she was blind.

well let me ask you how many of these "experts" have actually had half of their brain removed to test this theory

no one on this planet has any idea of how the human brain works
they can only speculate

did u know that if a child has brain cancer pre age 5, that they remove the lobe of the brain that has the cancer on it

thats a 50 percent brain loss right their

but guess what....they function as normal as everyone else

http://www.click2houston.com/health/4595068/detail.html

The latest brain research has overturned what was once accepted as dogma. Our brains are not like computers, nor do they operate like a circuit board which has been programmed at birth. Instead our brains are incredibly adaptable-they have "neural plasticity." Your brain continually remodels itself as a result of your experiences, injury, learning, hormones, aging and countless other inputs. That means that your brain "grows" all the time! Even to the extent that if they remove half a brain, as they did at Johns Hopkins University for Maranda Fransisco at age 4, the other half takes over. Restoring as it did for Maranda, who is now an active teenager, virtually all of her functions. In fact the brain keeps growing as it gets more exercise. The reason, your 100 billion nerve cells, or neurons, have branches like trees. And each time a nerve cell is stimulated it branches out forming new connections with other neurons. Meaning that the more experiences you get the richer and larger your view of the world, or the wiser you become.
As seen in: The Washington Post Health Section, Sep. 28, 99.

in conclusion i say for everyone who thinks she didnt feel it, make sure to donate your non dead body to science in case of brain damage and lets find out

An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field. Niels Bohr
