Gap at the top and bottom? That's the only way to watch a movie.

Otherwise you watch a pan and scan version and you always miss things. That is the way the movie was originally intended and shot. Widescreen is the best.

Click on the coupon links and check out their bargains forum. At times there are some killer deals. Some of the best have been $10 off at bigstar and 50% off at checkout. But deals like that might be over, althought there's always some good ones around. And sometimes Best Buy or Circuit City have some on sale for good prices too.

Oh yeah, buy a $1000 TV to play a $15 DVD lol
I think i'll wait on getting one, a 2 inch gap at top and bottom is way too much for me. IF they were smart, they would do like sony does with their TV's and it fills the whole screen without cutting any off.

sorry chris, i have to jump on the widescreen bandwagon.
Full screen or "pan and scan" has traditionally robbed us of sometimes up to 1/3rd of the movie. when they say, "this movie has been formatted to fit your screen", that means the editor has gone through the whole movie and panned across the full length movie and cropped the section he thought was vital to each scene.
traditional movies are filmed either usually in 1.85:1 ration (or 16:9). Our traditional tvs are 4:3 unfortunately, so the editor is forced to cut out parts of the film. its really a travesty. Once you get used to widescreen, you can never go back!

Now I got a 32" widescreen monster and I wouldn't change it for the world...
Widescreen is the future.....just give in to it...you know you want too....

I dunno, i watch dvd's at my friends house all the time and he always make's me leave cause i bitch too much about the gap. I get the whole "as the director intended" thing but TV's that support it arn't main stream yet. I just think it's such a waste to have a 36" and only get to use *maybe* 30", i swear it's less then that. I'll probably buy a cheap one so if i ever get pissed and throw it in the street i won't be out much. I was gonan get teh APEX one so at least i can play MP3's if all else fails and its not too expensive($170?). Saw a samsung for $89 somewere too.
Trilobyte, thanks for the tip lol.

I'm getting to the point where if it's not widescreen I will not rent or watch it. I don't even own a VCR anymore.
