Keanu Reeves as Superman? What I think he may look like as the Dude of Steel:
[align=center]Image[/align]

September 13, 2002... FOX News' Roger Friedman was the first to break the story today: not only is Brett Ratner the new director for Superman 5, but it's none other than Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) who's been cast to play Superman!

Friedman says his sources say "the deal is done and [Ratner] is in." As for Reeves, the article says he's been "tapped", which could mean he's signed, considering it, attached to the part or rumored.

Friedman's story also mentions one new item: he refers to J.J. Abrams script as Superman: Last Son of Krypton and not The Man of Steel. Interesting, eh? Hang on, it gets better. [David Falkenheim, Gary Helgerson, Mikel and an anonymous dude were first to tell us; first appeared on FOX News.]

Earlier today Variety broke the story that Brett Ratner is no longer in talks to direct Paycheck, the movie in development based on the Philip K. Dick short story. According to the trade mag, it's now Kathryn Bigelow (K-19: The Widowmaker) who's in negotiations to helm the feature. So why did Ratner move away from doing Paycheck as his next film, huh? Oh, it gets even better. Stick around. [Source: Variety.]

Thanks to the boyos at Superhero Hype, we were turned on to an article at Sky Movies which dumps even more gasoline on this fire: they say Ratner's in and -- hold on to your chair -- he's asked Anthony Hopkins to play the part of Superman's father, Jor-El! Yeah, it sounds absolutely crazy to us too but maybe Sky News knows something we don't. [Sky News.]

And finally, the coup de grĂ¢ce arrived late this evening from one of our well-known spies who works in the industry. He confirms that Reeves has indeed been cast as Superman in the film!

This source has been extremely reliable in the past, and told us about many inside casting and business deals weeks before they made it to the trades. He tells us Reeves is, and we quote, "confirmed", and he's been so very, very right many times before. [How deep cover is this guy? He's got his own fortress of solitude.]

If Reeves is indeed going to be playing the new Man of Steel, the cat's already out of the bag and Warner Bros. will have to make an annoucement shortly.

Stay tuned folks!

For some reason, I find that Keanu Reeves is actually fitting for this part.

I agree. After seeing Reeves many performances in other movies I could easily see him carrying off the dual role of Clark Kent and Superman. This was something that I thought Christopher Reeve handled quite well and George Reeves failed to pull off.

After Reeves fell off that horse and promised he would walk again, I realized he really was Superman.

When his toes wiggled, I figured that would remove all doubt.

I guess I was wrong...

Coool! Keanu Reeves may not be the most talented actor, but I like the way he acts anyway. The Matrix is my favorite movie and I thought he was perfect in that. He should make a good Superman!

Looks like Reeves may not be in the running - from my link in the first post, which has been updated:

Latino Review also claims that they spoke to another journalist at the press event who said he asked Ratner if there was any truth to the rumor that Keanu Reeves will play Superman. According to the story LR reported, Ratner told the journalist it's false. We're going to contact our source that told us Reeves was confirmed and ask for further clarification

----

I would have liked to see Reeves in the role - he's got that square/tough cool that would have worked for the new Superman film - he would have been better at it than Jude Law for 'Superman vs. Batman."

I can't see an Englishman playing the Man of Steel - Red, White and Blue all the way... I also could never see an American playing Bond, so don't take me wrong...

I agree Uber. An American, a real American english speaking actor should play Superman, not an englishman. And no doubt an englishman should play Bond.

Ever since his 'excellent" adventure it's been hard for me to fathom reeves as any hero. But he did do well in speed and the matrix. He's probably closer to Christopher Reeve than anyone else.
