I went up to Minnisota for some small mouth bass fishing. Going again this year, right at the end of summer (get to miss the first 6 days of school ;) ). Wish I had a scanner cause I could show ya what I caught. I think my biggest small mouth was 5lbs. My dad caught a Northern Pike the year before that was ~40-inches. Got it mounted and is in his bed-room.

(not my dads, btw)

Now you've seen one :D They're vicious fish. Tons of razer sharp teeth and their gills will cut right through your line, so you have to have a leader. The only northern I caught was about 8" long--very tiny thing :) I also caught a tiny ass walleye which is kinda funny. The entire time my dad was there, he was trying to catch walleye. He didn't catch a single one (not even a small one) yet the other guys that came with us caught some and they weren't even fishin' for them :)

Uh H_T, I don't think it would be wise to put a fish in or on a scanner. :D

Used to fish all the time when I was growing up. Lived about a 100 yards from a big lake. All I ever caught though were those pesky pearch.

alligator gar

That Pike looks like he may be kin to the alligator gar , which we have an abundance of . They have razor sharp teeth and can grow over 6' long . Not too many people eat gar because they taste kinda strong .

Just got back from a vacation where we did a lot of fishing. We were in Colorado and New Mexico. Most of the fishing we did was on the Navajo Damn Reservoir. The place was loaded with Croupy, Big&Small mouth Bass, Trout, and Carp. The Carp are ugly and not worth eating but they were huge and put up a good fight, they were fun to catch.

I have done my share of Pike fishing. Defiantly need a steel leader for that. They are very fun to catch and put up a heck of a fight and usually break the water numerous times.

The Northern Pike is similar and related to an even meaner and larger fish, the Musky which lives in northern WI, NY and a few other places (probably MN too). Some get to be about 55" long and are known to put up a good battle. I have yet to catch a legal one so far (40" where we stay) even though I try for a few days every year. Small northerns (20") are fairly common in the lake we stay at and unless I'm desperate for a fish dinner I'll usually throw them back because they're very boney.
The lake we stay at (on vacation) also has a good bass population BUT they've changed the legal size from 12" to 14" and a 14" bass isn't all that easy to find, many 12"ers however.

At Lake Fork , there is slot limit on large mouth bass . Anything between 16" and 24" has to be released . So you have to catch at least a about a 7 pounder to be above the 24" slot . Hopefully I will catch one over the 24" :D

I want to go to lake fork too! The guide was at the rv and boat show in odessa a few months ago and he had some pretty impressive fish with him.

I live in san angelo and fish Nasworthy, Twin Buttes and Ivie all the time. though I am more a laid back bank fisherman.

My friends and I usually fish for red drums and cat fish, though dont complain when other species grace our pressence.

other semi local lakes that i visit are Colorado City Lake and Moss Lake.

/edit/ in texas you can use any non-game fish as bait that you catch you self. i use a throw net and catch chad and perch for bait all the time. A trot line is legal in texas for non-game fish also. /edit/

Just wanted to say good luck though and hope you catch a big one! look up the fishing report the nightd before you go.
