I have heard you can fill out forms to have your name removed from the lists they get. Any one know if theres someplace online I can go?

Its supposed to be illegal (maybe just in TN? I cant remember) for them to call you. I now dont get ANY calls since that law was passed. WAs this a federal or local state law? anyone know? I do know that if you tell them NOT to call you again, to take you off the list, and they do call you again, that they are fined 5,000 dollars everytime they call you again. As i said..cant remember if this is state only, or federal. check into it, dial 0 and ask =)

I think the fine does apply all over, but they can call if they want to here.

Hang up on them immediately, I do. I say no thanks quickly and hang up. Ya try arguing with em they just keep yapping away. I have caller id so if it's from one I don't know then I let the answering machine pick up. Why waste your time, eventually they give up.

The next time they call you ask the rep to put your name on the "do not call" list, and they won't call you again; if they still do you can sue 'em.

I've never done this because I don't have the gift to gab, but what if you show intrest in what they are trying to sell. Keep them hanging on for 30 minutes or so changing your mind on options and so forth, then simply say, "na I changed my mine", or hang up.

They never let the phone ring for more than four rings. So answer all your calls on the fith ring. Also there is a pause of silence when you pick up the phone and say hello, so hang up if noone answers right back. And if you get caught, and they ask for you....tell them you are not home.

It's useless trying to talk to them because it's a minimum wage, dime a dozen job and those who are doing it could care less about your opinions, they're just doing what they're told to do.
IMHO, it should be illegal and stopped by our government being that it's a serious violation of your privacy.
..........BUT, until that day occurs (probably NEVER), you can do what I've done but it costs $$$$. Get Caller ID with Privacy Manager if it's available in your area. It's great because I now never get any of those unwanted calls ever. The only time my phone rings is when it's someone who's IDd. With normal Caller ID all telemarketers are IDd as being "out of area" (which is BS because it was setup this way for a reason, the next Caller ID scam but ?), with the Caller ID Privacy Manager (yet another small monthly fee no less), it takes any of those unknown IDd calls (including blocked calls) and makes them have to enter more info and actually speak to get past the Privacy Manager so it effectively weeds all of those out.
To me, it's worth it because I can't stand all those telemarketers or hearing the phone ring when it's someone I don't want to talk to.
A no cost alternative is to just pick up and say nothing first, just listen because the telemarketers use automated machines that don't connect them to you unless you speak first. You'll usually hear a machine type noise and no human will say "hi" to you, so then hang up. The moment you talk a human will pick up and start rambling on.....

you can ask.......
1. For them to put you on their do not call list.
2. For their name/employer/home phone/and i believe their address.

If you have a record feature record the conversation. 1. ask for the company. 2. then ask to be put on their do not call list. 3. if they call again sue. You have tapes with evidence and you will win.

I do exactly what blade does, if I don't recognize the number (they are usually long distance calls), I let the machine screen it...

I have worked for two different telemarketing firms in my life and i am currently working with one now over the christmas break. this is my best advice as to how to get them to stop calling.
1. DONT JUST HANG UP!!!!!! if you don't identify yourself or just hang up that just means they will prolly call you back.
2. INGORING THE CALLS DOESN'T WORK if you don't answer the phones the computer will just recycle you through the list. you will be called again. plus if you stay on a list for long that means you will get cycled through several different versions and called more.

THE SOLUTION.
1. act interested for a bit and try to get the number for the company they are calling on behalf of. if its a credit card get the costomer service number ect.

2. after you get that number ask them to put you on the do not call list then ask to speak to their manager. request that the manager send you written conformation that you were removed from the list. (if they run the company ligitmatly they will do this without a problem. the company i work for does this. ) NOTE: this does take a few months for them to do this (thats what they say). give them time

3. if you recieve any more calls from that company act like you are interested in the product untill you get some number of either the telemarking comany or the company the are calling for. if you call up the company they are calling for and rattle some cages odds are you will DEFINATLY not recieve any more calls. threaten to cancel cards with that company, long distance ect. whatever. this will prolly stop the shady telemarketing firms from continuing to call you b/c the company they call for will get REALLY pissed.

4. if this doesn't work try to call the FCC or a state governing body. i am not too sure how to do this but you may want to start with your state senator or something like that.

I do what blade does but come on you want to sue somebody because they called you to sell you something. Like there aren't enough frivalus law suits out there already
