I was able to buy a 9000 watt peak one yesterday and have been able to get some if our lights, two of my dirrctv and tv as well as a coupon of power strip for charging cell phones and such. I also threw a line to both neighbors on either side of me for their refrigerators and lights. No flooding around me thank goodness.

i am very glad to hear you and ur family have some relief now!

hubby finally was able to get to work today, ~ the limited subway service ceased at the station he normally gets off; from there they turn the train around.
{ just as he approached the turnstiles at 6 this morn, he said the clerk was putting up a sign that said trains would only run on the hour. will have to see how the trip home works out for him,, }

I guy I work with has relatives in NJ, they're told no power until the 8th. That has to suck.

I'd take a long road trip to any nearby state to buy a good generator if I didn't have anywhere else to stay.

Comcast Opens Up Xfinity Wi-Fi Hotspots to Sandy Victims
http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/121842

Comcast says that they're opening up their Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots to everyone to help first responders and victims of Hurricane Sandy. According to a press release sent to our inbox and a statement by Comcast in our forums, as of yesterday customers within range of Comcast's hotspots in markets affected by Sandy (PA, NJ, DE, MD, DC, VA, WV, MA, NH and ME) can now access those hotspots free of charge. "Non-XFINITY Internet customers should search for the “xfinitywifi” network name and click on the “Not a Comcast subscriber?” link at the bottom of the Sign In page -- Then select the “Complimentary Trial Session” option from the drop down list. Users will be able to renew their complimentary sessions every 2 hours through Wednesday November 7th." You can find a coverage map of all of Comcast's hotspots here: http://www.comcast.com/wifi/default.htm?SCRedirect=true

My friends in NYC are starting to bail out to anywhere they can. No power, no water, no elevators, and it's getting cold.

I have heard as early as tomorrow night and as late as Friday. I did good today and was able to get all my odd and even number plated cars gassed up before the end of the day. I was also able to secure 15 more gallons of gas for the genny. I have enough fuel to run it for another 3 days. I have been running it for about 10 hours a day. I run it for a bit in the day to maintain the frost in the refrigerator and I then I run it from about 4:30 until we retire to bed to generate some heat and so we can have light, heat and watch a bit of TV at night for the news. I need to do an oil change in the am before firing it up.
