There are people in this country that RELISH anarchy. This is their big chance to be someone. I can guarantee that most of the trouble makers are gang members or other scum.
You gotta realise that from their point of view on the ground it's the end of the world, and there's a lot of a-holes out there that relish the idea of being king of their own little piece of the end of the world.

Condolences and cash
On Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin sent condolences to President Bush and said Russia was prepared to help if asked.
Boats, aircraft, tents, blankets, generators, cash assistance and medical teams have been offered to the U.S. government in Washington or in embassies overseas.
Offers have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States, the spokesman said.
Israeli Ambassador Daniel Ayalon called Wednesday at the State Department to offer condolences and assistance. Israel is the largest recipient of U.S. aid, about $2.2 billion a year.

i agree to this !
i also feel people need to start working as a unit and start cleaning the bad apples out - either by turning these bad guys in or doing them in . yes i agree its a very very bad seen there -but sometimes you have to help to be helped . and when you conceal the bad guys . all have to pay the price .
its whats been wrong in this country for years -and now might be a good time to start a change .and taking the country back from the thugs and gangs ! it is easy for me to post this as i know im not there in N.O. and were only feeling a pinch in the pocket book when i go to the gas pump . but its time for a change in this country . and to bring back control of are citys . we know who the bad apples are and tell them enough all ready !
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me.

Dont get me wrong I agree these people, and I do mean all of them need and shroud get our help but please this is not Afghanistan. Yeah they were getting shot at with RPG's there but guess what....WE SHOT BACK. I realize these actions are signs of how desperate these people are but my god when we as a people come to help "our people" and they start shooting at us I am going to re think how eager I am to help. It is an absolute shame and disgrace that anyone would take these kind of actions and turn an already tragic situation into something even worse.Originally posted by Syn

Hopefully things will get better there in a timely fashion and the loss of life can be held to a minimum, if that is possible.

i just heard a news report that saids -a lot of the people that are there to drive the relief bus are refusing to drive them .in part because they have told there family they wont go into N.O. then why the hell don't they kick there asses home .and ask for people at the dome to drive them .I'm sure they find some that be willing to .or national guardsmen who would ?
also why have we not seen tent city's being erected .after hearing that the dome and other places were these people are being moved to are filling or full up .
I'm not a brain surgeon but there should be lots of empty farm land or plains between N.O. and Texas .where this could be done as a temp refuses .
OK its not a good seen - what else is upsetting is to see news crews able to reach areas but .relief works say they cant or wont .if your there to help - then help if your just going to be there to say your scared and refuse to do the job you came to do then get the hell out ! i agree if there shooting at you then thats one thing .but seems to be coming out right now some of this is being exaggerated . also if they are looting and causing trouble add a 25 cent bullet to there ways I'm sure that cool them down !
I'm not there and don't understand all that is going on but it seems to me -miss management by are over payed government officials . its time we take some hard looks at who we put in office and also who they put in off ice . its time to make some changes in are thinking in office .like if you can handle the job its yours not we been friends for 20 years so i let you have the job as director of this dept . and put the people with the years of working in that area in the top spots . promote with in a dept .not from a politic friend ship !
also they are old schools - factorys nad empty warehouse large empty building nation wide that are sitting empty come on there not the best places in the world .but they would be suitable for temp. places to put up people ?

This is not the time to critique, but after it's all over there's going to be a LOT of analyzing to see what went wrong here.
Considering the incredible amounts of money spent on homeland defense, we seem to have been ill prepared. Granted this was a monumental tragedy on a large scale, but a nuclear bomb going off in a major city would have been no less devestating and we were SUPPOSED to be ready for something like that.
To give credit, FEMA was ready to cope with the normal effects of the hurricane. They were pre-staged with supplies and places like Biloxi was getting relief the next day.
The problem is that no one seems to have been even vaguely prepared for a levee failure in New Orleans, and yet everyone from city commisioners to the Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA were well aware that a levee failure was a VERY possible scenario and have been talking about this being their worst fears for decades.
On a side note, those of you in Hurricane, Earthquake or tornado prone areas PLEASE TAKE NOTE. You have to be realistic - in a worst case scenario you MUST be prepared to be self-sufficient for AT LEAST 5 days (that's what they tell us here in Florida). That means water, food, medicine, radios, whatever for 5 days. It should be put aside in a seperate water proof bin and marked EMERGENCY SUPPLIES. Once a year it needs to be refreshed and checked.
I PERSONALLY stockpile my hurricane supplies for 2 WEEKS. I've been through hurricane Andrew, and that's a far more realistic attitude.
In a disaster in a large scale, especially here in Florida where it's easy for the major highways to be cutoff since we're on a peninsula, it's just unrealistic to think that help can get to you a day or two after the storm.

Whats up with all the looting? I mean if food, water, and medical supplies are really needed items, why steal a bunch of crap that is worthless at a time like this. Marshall law is going to be a policy created by the thugs and its nothing more than a self feeding cycle of madness. The ones that are surviving are the realists and the determined, not the lazy. If they want to run around stealing crap, why not steal a bus and transport some of the wounded and critical citizens to a safer enviroment and be a hero instead of an "asshat" as DaMaN calls em.
Also the fact that a hurricane would destroy N.O. should steer anyone away for living there that isnt strong enough to "tuff out the storm". Would you go to the desert without an ample supply of water? Why live in an area below sea level and not have a good flood emergency plan?
Support from any other country should be utilized. When we offer support to other countries do they turn it down? Seems like a national debt leveler to me. To find the true humanity of a person they have to be put into a situation like this. Basicly, if a person is looting and shooting other people that are trying to help, then they are saying that humanity and morals dont exist in them and that they want to be killed. Simple.............eye for an eye............

I think we're finally seeing (government acknowledgement of) foreign offers of assistance because they realized the United States wasn't rushing to NO's aid.Originally posted by blade
Just saw on Cnn that Castro offered 1100 doctors and other assistance.
Hope we take him up on his offer, along with Venezuela. Among others. Help is really needed as we know. This kinda renews my faith in certain other countries. IF, they come through.
heck, SOMEbody has to help....
Besides, I suppose they think we deserve having to wait, or get less help. After all, of the 21 richest countries, we rank 12th in aid to poor nations. We're more concerned about helping other nations with our weapons exports...at least we make a few bucks that way. We should all remember that headlines were brutal in every major newspaper in every country...especially ours...regarding the lack of immediate action and the obvious stingyness regarding the amount of money Bush initially pledged.
But I'm being facitious. Sorry 'bout that, I just heard the uncensored radio interview with the mayor. He essentially pointed out how his career is over now, he's in a lot of trouble for things he was saying, but everyone outside the Oval Office sees him as a man of integrity and truth.
And let's keep in mind that money doesn't go toward lessening potential impact of disasters like this any more, not since 9/11. All funding decisions are made by Homeland Security, and the only issue they think that will impact this country is terrorism...N.O. had a levee that was barely rated for a category 3, they pleaded to have it upgraded for years, and now the city is submerged.
All because of fear.
Which is exactly what the extremists intended in the first place.

The mayor of N.O. told it like it is. In my book he's a hero. And I wouldn't say his career is over. I think people like the idea of a politician who speaks his mind in a time of crisis and cuts through the B.S.
For those of you who didn't hear Mayor Nagin's diatribe, it's on torrents here:

Listen until the end - you can hear him barely holding it together to keep from crying.
