xsiled is correct. Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance should clear things up in this regard...

Wow. I was totally caught unawares. After one hundred and twelve years, which United States judge declared the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional? And if this is true, why is it that every uniformed soldier hasn't deserted yet? :rolleyes:

The constitution's amendment that seperates church and state was not intended for the purpose of keeping under God out of the pledge. The intent was to avoid situations like those in England where the King controlled both the government and the church. The amendment that was challenged which led to the ruling was the 1st amendment that allows for the freedom of religion. While the judge in San Francisco did rule the pledge unconstitutional, a higher judge did overturn that decision if I remember correctly.
