Married guys...need advice (and honesty)
Thanks for the advice guys. I am not going out of my way to buy something expensive. I was hoping to find something around $2000 but the ones I had seen so far don't really look that nice. I just want a nice ring with a nice cut diamond in the middle. Nothing to fancy. Nothing to big. Just a nice crafted and cut diamond ring. If I can get away with spending $2000 or less for one I will. Any recommendations?

OMG! 2-4K for a ring? When my wife and I got married, there was NO engagement ring. We picked out our rings before hand, and I believe we spent total for the both of us <$1000. We then went to Vegas to get married for $5. The reason is we did not have anything, and it did not make sense to spend all this money on a couple of rings when we did not have the basic essentials for a new couple: furniture, silverware, appliances, etc.
Call me and my wife cheap, but we were using a little common sense here.

I tossed the Vegas idea to my gf and she straight out said "NO!". As for the ring though, my gf told me that she didn't want me to spend a lot of money on the engagement ring (her words were more like buy only what you can afford, don't go broke buying the engagement ring) but her sister is into expensive things and I don't my gf to feel like hers is anything less than what her sister will probably get when she gets engaged shortly. My gf's sister really wants an expensive wedding. I hope that won't rub off on my gf.

ask the jeweler to use his loop (eye peice )and look at the diamond make sure you dont see a lot of black specks in it and that it gliders -dont exspect it to not have black specks in it just not a lot of it !and look for cracks to :!
also a marque cut is the cheaper of cuts to a emeral (square ) is middle and round will cost most !
we hope we helped .
also color can run from a yellowish brown -bright clear -and affect the price to
also every diamond has a flaw there is no perfect diamond !

Executioner, I'm with you on the cheap rings. I spent 110 bucks on two bands and then we eloped. Of course I am probably one of the top ten cheapest people in the universe but I don't believe in showing someone how much I love them buy how much I spend on them. It's an expensive way to go for certain.
As several of the others have said, she probably won't care if you spend 20 bucks or 2000, it's all the same when your blinded by love. Spend a grand and then buy her a really nice teddy, a dozen roses and take her out for a $100 dinner, make it more about the event than the ring and you'll do just fine. Add a few drinks and stir gently, enjoy!

Some guy over at Anand's is selling his ring which he claims was never used. Can you tell me by this description whether this is a good deal for around $2000?
"This is a very popular design right now. This gorgeous ring features a center round brilliant cut diamond with a weight of .708 carats. This diamond is EGL certified and has a clarity of VS2 and a excellent color grade of H. The measurements are 5.34 x 5.41 x 3.73 mm. On the side, there are additional round cut diamonds that have a total weight of .32 carats. These diamonds have a clarity of Vs2-Si1 and a color range of H-I. These diamonds are set in a beautiful platinum setting.
The appraisal on this ring, which will be provided along with the EGL certificate, is $7600."

My moms ring costed ~$500 or somethin'. She's always been cheap and not big on jewlrey. The only other ring she likes and now has is one of those "mothers" rings which has a birth stone for each child on it. It's pretty cool

MY ASS IT IS! If that thing appraises at $7600 the guy who did it must have been blind. I would say AT MOST that ring (based on the verbal description) is worth $1500-$2000. I still wouldn't buy it b/c a VS2/H diamond is pretty poor quality. The appraisal on this ring, which will be provided along with the EGL certificate, is $7600.
Definitely do not go into debt over this (too much anyways). Your wife will appreciate you entering the much debt free more than she will appreciate a big expensive ring. You need to find some deal that will let you do some kind of no interest financing. You can find one somewhere pretty much anytime if you look. The first engagement ring I bought (yes, there have been two. First one was never proposed to though.
My finacee's ring cost me about $175. Its a .5 karat, nearly flawless, round solitaire. Of course, the diamond was bought by my great-great-great-uncle who was loaded and had it as the head on a tie pin or some such, and all I had to buy was the setting (thank you mom).
And I wouldn't worry too much about your gf's sister. If your girl is really worth marrying, she will be overjoyed with a Ring Pop if its from you.
On a long enough time line, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

My wife and I spent something like $250.00 on our wedding rings. Of course, that was 27 years ago and I was making less than $3.00 an hour at the job I had.
One thing to rememeber is that if you buy an inexpensive diamond to begin with, you can always buy a more expensive loose diamond later on and replace the one on the ring. This is what we've done several times.
On the other hand, you can do what our neice and her husband did, they spent $13,000 on their rings.

Rule #1 of buying jewlrey: Always buy from a reputable dealer so you can be sure that the items are genuine and are quality goods.
You would feel very sick if you bought some ring from an online source for $2k then found it was only worth a 5% of that. A lot of scams revolve around items of jewlrey that appear valuable but are actually worthless sh!t.
