Tax relief...
ideas...
Let's see, I can think of several ways to spend this...
1) At least 6 nights of hardcore drinking.
2) Paying for 5 New York City subway fare violations (one is $60; ouch! I'll never do that again).
3) Buying some furniture that isn't second-hand and doesn't suck.
4) Getting a really big back-up hard disk for an iso.
5) One of those "Asian beauties" from the back of the Village Voice.
6) A U-haul so I can get the hell out this crazy place.
7) A couple pairs of really nice pants and some shirts, too.
8) Several pair of nice shoes.
And on and on. I'm not knocking "tax relief," but Jesus, couldn't this have been put towards better things such as more research for renewable sources of energy instead of propaganda for an agendaless administration? I mean, just look at the innane shit I'm thinking of spending MY $ on, and I think that the government should have kept it, maybe put it into that new-fangled mi-ssile de-fense sy-stem to protect us from the Chi-nese, Rus-skies, North Ko-reans an' other assorted miscreants.

Wait a minute there jah! Since when has the freak'n govt. spent our money wisely on ANY damn thing! Doesn't matter what administration it is, leaving partisan politics out of this. They waste more money in a minute than everyfreak'n body on this forum will waste in a lifetime! I for one am glad to get anything back, be it bribe or whatever. And it was my money in the first place, I earned it, and should get to spend it any way I please. I remember when a certain "un-named" politico told the press that we shouldn't get a tax return because "WE" weren't smart enough to spend it properly! Oh man, I gotta quit before I blow a gasket here

You don't have to spend your money on innane crap. You could help an underprivileged child go to a good school instead of being stuck in a crumbling government run school. You could help someone pay for their cancer treatments.
But why don't you take your money and donate it for more research for renewable sources of energy? Its not government's job to do everything! By the way national defense is a federal government responsibility.
First you say its an agendaless administration then you come up missile defense system which is one of the things this administration is doing. Wonderful.
Not pursing a missile defense system that allows us to defend ourselves from miscreants is shortsighted. If you don't wish your children to be protected so be it. The rest of us do.

Only stupid liberals would turn down THEIR OWN MONEY!!! Tell ya what, you can't deal with the guilt? SEND IT TO ME!!!!
You really want to get frosted, notice that your $300/$600 is the LESSER of either those amounts or 5% of your total income! That means if your income is $50,000, you're only getting $600 instead of $2,500!!! How f*cked up is that?!? That could be two months mortgage payments or WHATEVER you wanted to do with it. (Vacation? Big screen TV? Retirement investment?)
The Democrats are screaming that the tax cut has "put the economy in the ditch" when it's not gonna be phased in for A DECADE and it could be repealed the moment the Dems regain power. So, they're basically full of hay.
The Republicans are such spineless cowards that they are supporting the most pork-barrel spending since LBJ (which is NOT Spanish for "blow job" - Dennis Miller) in the insane hope that the media won't call them mean. Bah!
What am I gonna do with MY OWN MONEY? Hmmm...I get my $300 in mid-September, so I'll prolly use it for my dual-Palomino/GF3 monster rig I'm planning out now. Of course, if I could have my 5%, that'd pay for most of the PC AND my CD.
Thanks Uncle Scrooge. :|

(Nominated Best Rock Recording - 2002 Detroit Music Awards)This isn't "pork-barrel spending"..LOL. The money is rolled over from the surplus we have from over paying the IRS. Bush wanted the "american people" to have the money back instead of hoarding it all to the goverment's self. I see this in two views, he isn't exactly doing it as a "payoff" but you wont be seeing another one of these for 4 more years..if you get my drift. This is to help the people and promote a good image for W. Theres a reason the Gov is trillions in debt and it's certainly great that we are getting some of our money back either way. They are going to spend money regardless of what they have and dont have. So as for "pork-barrel spending" you apparently haven't been watching the Gov spending. They spent millions of dollars to test the effects of a radiation fall out on coke cans? Thats pretty freakin intelligent! Good use of money. If that isn't pork barrel spending i dont know what is. You are making snide remarks about a political part that doesnt even approve most of the goverment defense spending! The Gov has overspent regardless of what political party has been in office. Just be happy you are seeing some money back.
I don't care if it is just to make W. look good, he's the only president to have ever done that.
Another move of this is to stimulate the economy. They figured with this money we will go out and spend more and this will pull the econ out.
Either way the Gov didnt HAVE to pay us back and it's just cool that they did. Now i can buy more cool toys, and it sounds like most of you will be too. So in turn this makes those "spineless" Republicans look pretty damn smart and the econ will start moving a little.

Look at it this way too... how many presidential canidates in the past have promised tax relief or cuts and never followed through? Hmmm.. pretty much every one? This was one of GW's campaign promises.. and he's following through with it... says a lot if you ask me. I should be getting $600 back.. I'll probably end up sending it to a credit card or to Ford Credit(since my car is close to being paid off)...

The amazing thing about this is that the rebates are being sent out so that the public can spend it to help pick up the economy. Makes sense if you think about it - People with more money in their pockets can buy stuff. Duh!
Now if $300 will help a little, why not give us the $2500 I mentioned above? Hmmmm? Wouldn't that do EIGHT TIMES more good than this little pittance? Of course it would, but then the greedy bastards wouldn't be able to steal from one group to buy the votes of others.
Those of you who keep calling this "a bribe" aren't too bright, are ya? If a mugger only steals half of a victim's money, is the money left "a bribe"? Now, if that mugger steals the money and then "gives" it to another person in exchange for a vote, who's getting "bribed"?!?
Dubya promised the tax cut and was able to get it through. Gore would've never done anything. Unfortunately, Jim "I'm an Independent" canceled the election and the will of the people in his play for media love by handing the Senate over to the Democrats. Now, the GOP thinks that the way to cling to power is to start spending Linus', Kaka's and MY money!
Linus' toys, Kakarot's car and my new PC are gonna be pissed away by the guys who should be fighting this sort of stuff. Pathetic.

DirkBelig It's apparent you are misinformed about the Tax Relief. Not to be offensive, but you sound like one of the biggest snivling little snots i've ever seen in my life. You have this "I WANT IT ALL OR NOTHING" attitude. Your parents must have pampered and sheltered you way too much. You are truely a brat in every since of the word. You run around screaming " F the system" yet you actually know nothing about it. This Tax Relief isn't just about getting one single check back.
You should be freaking happy that we are getting back ANY money at all! No president has EVER come through with a Tax Relief and Resturcturing of Goverment spending that has been so favorable for the american public...ever. Have you actually studied up on whats going to happen? You say this is going to take 10 years to become fully effective, but the majority of it is going to come full circle in the next year. It's the actual Tax cuts that will take 10 years to become fully effective, but we are already seeing the results, and will over the course of the next 10 years.
Here are some key points in the tax purposal that you've apparently not read.
K-12 Education funding increases by 1.9 billion in 2002 over 2001 funding
Reading, fully funded Reading First initiative is funded 975 million dollars in 2002, more than tripling funding from previous years.
Ends the death tax. Did you know we pay taxes on our death? How ironic is that?
TAX RELIEF - lets tax payers keep roughly 1/4th of the surplus they produce.
The law, the first major tax cut in 20 years, cuts income tax rates across the board, reducing the lowest rate from 15 percent to 10 percent, and the highest rate from 39.6 percent to 35 percent.
Some of the law's provisions are delayed several years, but eventually the measure will double the child tax credit from $500 to $1,000, reduce the tax penalty on married couples and fully repeal the tax on estates. I know you don't have a child and don't realize how much they cost and how important it is to keep them fed, sheltered, and taken care of...but it is really expensive. The Goverment is uping the child care relief to $1000. Doubling the previous relief. Of course this isn't going to make a huge difference, but every cent helps people like single mothers, low income families and such.
Once all cuts are fully phased in, the average family of four making $50,000 will save $1,825 per year, according to a Senate Finance Committee staff estimate.
The Treasury Department says 38 million families with children will save an average $1,460, 43 million married couples will save an average of $1,728, and 11 million single mothers will save an average of $772, once all cuts are phased in, a process that will take up to 10 years.
I think you live too much inside your little suburban bubble and you want all or nothing but dont realize the millions and millions of people these tax cuts will help. SBP is right...these $600 checks will be helping out ALOT of people. I don't think you will see them sitting around whinning that they didn't get $2500, when they have never received NOTHING. This is a great start and a move forward better than any president elect has ever done.
Open your eyes.

I find it some what hard to beleive that anyone would complain about getting 300-600 dollars back from the IRS. I can understand complaining about paying taxes but when you get some of it back and still want to complain about it just makes no sense to me at all. I hope no polaticians read this thread or next time maybe they will just give themselves another raise instead of giving some of it back to the people. That way at least we would have something legit to bitch about.
