I agree with you, BUT it's costing us billions of dollars. I also resent the fact in High School, you are now required to take 3 years of Spanish before you graduate. That is BS! It should be only one year of a foreign language, not just Spanish.

You know it's bad when every newspaper and TV news describes any crimes, and the criminal has a Spanish sir name 99% of the time. Mexico is exporting it's slave class to this country so they don't have to deal with them. If I was in charge, I would seal the border and give every illegal 30 days to leave the country or be forced to leave at gun point. If it's so bad in Mexico, then they should revolt and throw out the current government.

Before you call me a racists pig, my parents are from Costa Rica, and I do speak Spanish (even though I have forgotten most of the language). My parents game here the legal way. My kids though, do not speak a single word of Spanish. I want them to learn the English language since that will be the ticket to a decent job.

We got it worse in Ontario. We gotta take French all through grade school and into grade 9 and 10 IIRC. Never had to use that knowledge, ever. Working in retail for the last 3 years too.

But the "possibly making some decent money somewhere else" .

That "somewhere else" is another country where another language is spoken . Why should that country change their way of life , i.e. ATMs , etc , to accomodate illegal aliens ? Or for that matter , people that have came here legally from another country . English is the language here . Has been ever since we stole it from the Indians :D

How can they learn the language without anybody teaching it to them? All ESL classes around here (near San Diego) have like 2-4 year waiting lists. Not to mention they cost more money than most of these guys earn.

I don't believe they don't want to learn the language. Not like they can just do it in their "high schools"...

You don't see a lot of Spaniards jumping the border from Mexico.

Yah, I know that.. I'm just referring to the fact that it is possible they teach it as a second language in their schools.

But they're here illegally . Don't that mean anything ? Why cater to someone that is here illegally ? Why not spend that money on kids that are homegrown ?

OH please they learn the language easy enough when it means money in their pockets. It amazes me more Mexicans that live in Mexico can speak English than Mexicans that live in the USA. I would be willing to bet most of the illegals here that WONT speak English do so just because they just dont want to and are just throwing attitude rather than they cant speak English.

Do you realize that half the "mexicans" you see in San Diego are actually from Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica even?

You guys act as if this issue is black and white.

To me it is. If you want to live here you should do so legally and adapt to the lifestyle, customs etc of the Country not expect the Country to adapt to you. I have no problems with a Mexican or any other nationality living and working here in the USA as long as they enter legally and adapt enough to function. If they want to speak Spanish in their personal life that is fine just dont make the US tax payer pay for Drivers Manuals from the DMV and every other Govt document to be printed in Spanish and dont expect classes in public schools to be taught in Spanish. Also dont look at me like I am a moron when I cant answer your question in Spanish, it is a FOREIGN LANGUAGE . I dont see doing those simple things as asking too much I would expect to have to do the same if I moved to Mexico.

The illegals I've met, while not always knowing english, have never been rude to me about not knowing spanish. They've never asked me to translate it into spanish.

There are several businesses that employ thousands of people here that deal with legalizing the immigrants.

Many of them don't understand how to enter legally.

Many of them have little more than a grade school education.

Many of them would not have an idea of how to learn english - and NO I'm not talking about people in Tijuana - Have you ever been to Puerto de San Francisco? It's a poor town about 300 miles south of the border... School? What is school to them?

Corrupt officials are like the mafia there in certain areas. Pay protection money, etc.

Many businesses (mostly manufacturing) have closed down due to cheaper materials elsewhere - there are NO jobs. They can't afford the $30 fee to even apply for a visa.

And you say about how they spend tax-payer's dollars to print the manuals, well, in my opinion, that's ridiculous. Let's say Jose is a farmer illegally working for Joe Schmoe Landscaping. Jose makes $300/week to do what he does, which is well below minimum wage. He still pays for rent, food, gas - all sorts of other taxable things. Multiply that by how many illegals are actually here and what do you get? Cheap labor and lots of extra sales tax. What I'm trying to say is that it's not as big of a detriment as you think.

Take a look at the school systems here in So Cal and try telling me that. All due respect but I dont think you or I have a clue how big a drain the illegals are on the local economy. I have been deep into Mexico several times and have seen the good and bad the country has to offer and yes it is very corrupt and there is a lot of poverty and that is exactly what the illegals bring with them when they come here.

Well, you and I disagree on this issue. That's fine. Having been through school systems in Washington State and California I can tell you there is no difference.

I am a firm believer that we don't focus enough money/attention on our schools.

But it's not OK to enter illegally just because you don't how legally .

Are you suggesting we open our borders to anyone that wants to come here and work ?
