How much does your paycheck get raped ?

I sit at about 33% myself. It sucks.

I'm willing to pay for national security, roads, and the general welfare of American society. But geez, with likely 150 million earning americans, where does all the money go?

After everyone get their hands out of my pockets, child support, dental, 401k ect..ect..
I KEEP 48.4% Yes Its true. My deduction amount is higher than my net pay figure.

I also pay child support but I counted it in the takehome pay.

self employment tax is a bitch.

Ain't that the truth. I was in the same position last year and the first 6 months of this year. Last year, I worked 3 months over the summer and wound up with about $400 in SE tax. In the first 6 months of this year, I racked up almost $5000 in SE and federal taxes. Thankfully, I went on salary with my company after I got married so there is at least SOME contribution to the federal gov't. I am fully expecting this year's taxes to be a pain in the ass.

Oh, and for what its worth, I take home a little over 70% each pay period after helthcare and taxes. No investments (yet).
