I'm aching to get something fun from the past one of these years just for fun. That car in "...60 seconds" had to be very rare because I've never seen one in real life, only models (Seen Shelby GT-350s but not a GT-500).
Another car very noteworthy and rare was the Hemi Cuda.
Old Mopar muscle cars were great but so were some others like GTOs (especially a real Judge), 442s and the '70 Buick GS 455 stage1.

The Cobra has to be the hands down winner in the un-obtanium catagory. Much like the Ferraris and McLarens today. Not many people actually owned a Cobra in the 60's. Carrol Shelby did that intentionally. He got Ford to PAY him to build his own Dream car!!!! Especially the 427 SOHC models that locked the Cobra into History. The 427 Wedge Cobras were just decent and the 289 cars were Dogs.

My vote for the Working Mans Muscle car would have to go to the 1970 Nova SS454 LS6. If you were smart enough you could order this ride new for under 3,000 (delete heater) and go straight to the Strip and run 11.90's on 10" Racemasters. Only the Hemi Cuda's were faster but they couldn't put together back to back passes without breaking Rockers and sending pushrods flying thru that fancy shaker hood.

Now if Style was your objective ..... Theres a 70 1/2 Z-28 RS SS sitting in my garage right now. That LT-1 is sweet but NO match for the LS6 454. I wish I had that Nova back but it fell victim to the one damn Cuda that actually finished a 1/4 mile run. Man ... Street racin in St Louis for Pink slips (Titles). Gawd we were stupid. I would do it all again tho.

BTW: While the Judges/442's/Stage I Buicks were fast and stylish they were all RPM Limited. (Lousy Valve train geometry) Same problem with the 428 SCJ Mustangs. Now the 429 Shotgun hemi was an entirely different story but again ... un-obtainium unless your name was Holman or Moody. Only the BB Chevys could make the Torque and RPM it took to win street races back then.

And then there was Nitrous and bracket racing. Made me quit racing and start studying. Now I race computers. Much cleaner ... less fun.

Wolfy, didn't the replica models from the late 70's and early 80's seat Chevy engines? In particular the 350 Chevy (quuite possibly the finest small block ever IMHO) and the 427.

hehe, I remember seeing a car like that at a show once. I also remember the Charger which my dad just loves.

It's funny to see all these riceboys putting spoilers on their Hondas as if it's actually going to improve the performance! hah, most don't even know what the purpose of a spoiler is!

The rear wing on the Superbird added about 650 lbs. of downforce (I think the front spoiler added about 350lbs). With the Hemi, these cars could hit 220 mph at Daytona (don't think the riceboys will be going that fast :) ). I know the Superbird looks kinda silly (although I guess the huge wing is cool nowadays), but it needed those spoilers! :) Unfortunately the Charger Daytona (which was out a year earlier) did not do as well. Lotsa overheating problems :(
