Re: Recommended Pre- built PC

I've soured on Samsung the past year. They've had lots of problems. Your model has an issue, although latest firmware is supposed to fix it: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-980-pro-ssd-failures-firmware-update I've been going with Crucial lately. I also have two Sabrent Rocket drives in my...

Re: Okay, thinking of pulling the trigger on an Oculus Quest 2 (now the Meta Quest 2)

Well I bought a Quest 3 today, after trying a demo of it. It's a big improvement over the Quest 2. It's lighter, the image quality is better, the lenses are the better pancake lenses with less distortion and a wider FOV. It's much more comfortable to wear. Stock audio is also a huge improvement. I a...

Re: Recommended Pre- built PC

You have a heatsink on that M.2 SSD? The Gen 3 and 4's can overheat easily, although they usually just slow down, not cause errors. Even just the factory mobo heatsink, which is usually just a strip of metal with a thermal pad on it, will help. FYI: To try and copy your files off the drive, try boot...

Re: Recommended Pre- built PC

Btw they have some less expensive builds on that Lenovo Legion page if that's out of your price range. Same system with a 1TB SSD and an RTX 3060 for $1080, which is a very good deal, if you're gaming is 1080p.

Re: Recommended Pre- built PC

This Lenovo Legion Tower 5, direct from Lenovo, looks like a good deal at $1300 with a Ryzen 7 7700 and RTX 4070: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/desktops/legion-desktops/legion-t-series-towers/legion-tower-5-gen-8-(26l,-amd)/90ux000cus The Legion Tower 5 line seems to have good build quality accordi...

Re: Finally upgraded my phone

BTW: If you want to keep the battery on an old phone from deteriorating while in storage, put it in the fridge (not the freezer!). Best to discharge them to 50% first. I have several old devices in a mini fridge, along with my alkaline batteries. Batteries will stay fresh in a fridge for an extremel...

Re: Let's Play it Out: Space Trash Scavenger

And, of course, I had to make my Space Rig look like the USS Enterprise, once I had enough spare resources to waste on it :P

Using the nacelles for the solar panels actually works very well.

Let's Play it Out: Space Trash Scavenger

I had the game on my wish list, but Josh's video convinced me to buy it. I've been playing it the past three days and enjoying the hell out of it. Kind of a cross between Astroneer and Raft. There's only two devs working on it, but they are very responsive to bug reports and comments, and the game i...

Re: Finally upgraded my phone

I'm not aware of any way to hide them. If you back up the .apk files, which is what that backup program I use does, you can always sideload an old version by executing it's APK in a file manager app.

Re: Finally upgraded my phone

I turn off auto app updates, and pick and choose. I also use RerWare's MyBackup Pro to backup all my apps before I update them. There have been times when I didn't like an update or it broke something.

Re: Workaround for Youtube's Anti-Adblocker tech

I prefer Firefox. I have it configured the way I want it.

I do use Brave as my always open Google accounts browser on my workstation. I have my Google Calendar, Contacts, SMS messages and Gmail open on it all the time, but I do not do any browsing on it. That's my Google isolation system.

Re: Finally upgraded my phone

I've had exceptional life out of Pixels. Still using a Pixel 2XL as a spare. I have my wife's old Pixel 3a that still works fine and I keep in the fridge to stabilize the battery. That's still configured for her so it's a backup. We're both rocking Pixel 6 phones currently. I love the pure Android. ...

Re: Testing CMOS Batteries CR2032

I've seen dead CMOS batteries witn even higher voltages. Voltage alone means little. You want to put rhe battery under load, and then check the voltage, which is what a tester does. If you don't have a tester, then I would throw out any battery that comes up less than 3.1 volts on a digital multimet...
