I concur on the memory. The BARE MINIMUM for XP should be 256Mb in my opinion. XP will use just about the whole 128Mb you have installed just to run by itself - you're probably using the swap file continously. You'll notice a BIG performance difference if you add at least another 128Mb stick. Add mo...

Another vote for Lite-on - I have purchased four 32x12x40x units from NewEgg.com - all of them outstanding performers, and the retail box comes with Nero.

You can remove it if you want. It's a service that reserves bandwidth but only for QoS aware applications. Here's a brief description from Extreme Tech: A feature exclusive to Windows 2000 and Windows XP is the Quality of Service Packet Scheduler, a component of the TCP/IP stack that's installed by ...

MATT, stick to Unix - it's obvious you know nothing about Windows networking :)

WHY would file sharing be a hassle because of a Router? The router is just an interface to the internet. Anything on the LAN side of the router is just acting like a normal network.

Visionteks generally O/C well - they're designed for it. However there's never any guarantee, and a lot depends on your other hardware and settings. - First off you should be using the latest Nvidia Detonator drivers (the 30.x official driver NOT the 40.x beta) instead of whatever driver came with t...

Guys, you may want to wait for the official one on Windows Update (I think it'll be out next week?).

Lots of horror stories about some of those "unofficial" versions. Some are early release candidates.

There's nothing in SP1 that can't wait a week or two.

Sorry I hit Submit prematurely. The Linksys router sells for $50 - $75. If you're not in a rush, you can get a good deal on a D-Link cable/DSL router from from Buy.com for $36 after a $10 rebate: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10326027&hdwt=0&loc=101 A hardware router is BY FAR th...

There's 2 ways you can do this. The easiest by far is to buy a DSL/Cable router. For example the Linksys BEFSR11 http://linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=23&prid=142 which you can find just about anywhere(Office Depot, Best Buy, etc) for around $75 (sometimes less on sale). You can also find...

Another VERY hand utility for web programmers is Search and Replace: http://www.funduc.com/ This one's shareware though, but worth the money. It allows you to do text string search and replace on an entire folder of files. MASSIVELY handy when having to make a minor change (like an email address or ...

I just emailed CaseChange to ya, it's only 50K. QUESTION: Are your partitions formatted FAT32 or NTFS? I think that NTFS does do some funny things to the file case. You might particularly have a problem copying back and forth between them. Also, Win98 and 2K/XP also treat file names differently. I r...

Windows has an option to force all files uppercase and maybe you have that on? I'm not aware of any setting that would make windows change copied files from all lower to 1st letter capitalized. I use a freeware program that makes all folders in a directory and it's subdirectories all lowercase. It's...
