I don't know if this is any better, but I've been using CD Stomper. You can pick one up from Ebay's site really cheap verus going to the manufactuer.

That is an excellent price, but it's always a hassle with rebates. I HATE REBATES. You could also try and price match at a different place and see what happends. btw, Sony's are pretty decent burners. I have a HP8100 that I bought 2 years ago (HP's are mostly Sony made), and it's still going strong....

Before doing that...
Remove the case cover and have a small house fan blow on the guts of your pc to see if it's trully a heat problem or not. Easy way to rule that out.
