Re: Creepy? Facebook is now tracking you in stores

On the flip side, how many people think about the fact that their credit card company knows everywhere they've been shopping? Why would that surprise anyone or be a bad thing? They have instant receipts of every transaction that you make and always have since they stopped using the old paper method...

Re: TFW your internet goes down and takes your smart home with it

I've also got an Echo, a Dot on the outdoor porch connected to my speakers and a Nest T-stat (among others). I like being able to tell Alexa to turn the temp up or down a couple degrees even though sure, could use the phone or ipad too. If you're on FB and see all of the stuff people connect to home...

Re: TFW your internet goes down and takes your smart home with it

Yep. I have a friend in CA who got an internet thermostat....she gets home and it's 95 degrees in her house (no AC) and the help line wants her to play with wires connected to her AC compressor.... Some are better than others but someone's giving your friend very bad advice. They're t-stats, replac...

Re: TFW your internet goes down and takes your smart home with it

Agreed. The guy was being a bit over the top, although I do think he was screwed with the lights. It sounds like the wall switches were on but the bulbs were turned off and unless he can access the bulbs over the local LAN he's dead in the water until the Internet comes back on. They are controlled...

That's exactly what Alexa, the Amazon Echo does. Mildly amusing but still not perfected but they keep improving it and soon they'll have competition as Google's coming out with their version later this year.

Re: TFW your internet goes down and takes your smart home with it

I don't get why these switches, thermostats, etc. don't have manual overrides. Even HAL could be overridden. They do. If the wifi goes down, you're not screwed. You can still control things "the ol' fashioned way". Now sure, if you have an Amazon Echo and use it to control things via voic...

Re: Deadline to lock in Win10 license past July 29th.

Well your only choice in 3-1/2 years is Win8.1 or Win10 You really think that MS won't have another OS out by then, especially considering the lack of Win10s popularity? I, like many, also don't like how MSs trying to cram this OS down our throats, like "upgrade now or you'll be screwed later&...

Re: Deadline to lock in Win10 license past July 29th.

I honestly don't know one person who's tried Win10 and likes it compared to Win7, which is MSs best OS to date in most peoples opinions. By the time support for Win7 expires, MS will have at least one more newer OS as well.

Well, not really a "new Quake" IMO. Seems like it'll be another online thing like Quake Live, etc

Re: He sold a $40 printer. Then he was sued in Indiana for $30,000

and you can buy a new printer for ~$75. I couldn't give away an old printer at the last rummage sale we had, just tossed it. Usually on Craigslist, it's "as-is", used so buyer beware and no warranty or refund is just understood.
