Re: DJI Phantom 3 - my new toy

Very cool toy! Can't justify a need for one so far but maybe someday.

Re: Want to replace another laptops HDD with a SSD but don't see how to referance that

Yeah, not worth the hassle and especially for an old laptop that I really don't even need anymore. For $20, I ordered the used one from Amazon so that at least it'll work.

Limit to # of devices that can logon here?

For some reason I can't logon here from 2 PCs, a laptop here and a PC at work. I can logon to any other site with the same PCs however. It's as if there's a problem with the username, PW but it doesn't give me that error, just fails to logon. No, caps or numlock aren't on and I've logged off, back o...

Want to replace another laptops HDD with a SSD but don't see how to referance that

I have another older laptop, an ABS G3 Mayhem (~04) with a bad HDD (won't boot, laptop was dropped). I can buy a used HDD for $20 on Amazon but I'd rather upgrade it to a SDD, assuming that it's SSD compatible. My Dell Vostro 1000 (about 1 year newer) was so hopefully this one can be upgraded too. T...

Re: Better method to update Win7, new install?

Whew, finally fixed!!! I followed the instructions that Bob posted above and that worked. Then I installed the Convenience Rollup, then still an additional 70 updates and everything's working as it should. Even the video card driver updated.
Thanks to everyone who helped me solve this.

Re: Better method to update Win7, new install?

"Did you try that secure erase utility? " Not yet because then I'd be back to square 1 and I've made some progress, not to mention that Windows Authentication BS. So far, the stuff I've been reading about this has had nothing to do with another clean install. The same PC works fine when I ...

Re: Better method to update Win7, new install?

Well, it looked good at first, DL'd a few updates but then it's back to the same old BS but now slightly different. Sometimes it'll find updates but can't begin to DL them. Sometimes it'll say "No updates available, up to date" but then I look at the update history and see that most were &...

Re: Better method to update Win7, new install?

....Not sure it's completely working right yet. Says it's DLing now (didn't before), saw a progress bar where it shows % of DLs but then it stopped. "Try again". Rebooted, tries but..........showing no progress.

More later......

Re: Better method to update Win7, new install?

Well, first thing today was that after it was endlessly doing a "search for updates", a page came up saying that I needed to call in to Authenticate Windows. It had a bunch of #s and used my phone to complete 9 sets of #s, then said it was Genuine. Still wouldn't update. So, back to to the...

Re: Better method to update Win7, new install?

Checkdsk didn't find any problems but I did a google search on this topic and it turns out I'm not alone. Trying various things but the first link on Toms Hardware seems to have a cure so I'm trying that. https://www.google.com/search?q=new+install+of+Windows+7+SP1incapable+of+installing+Windows+upd...

Re: Better method to update Win7, new install?

Although it boots slow with the old HDD, it still works. No updates with Vista, must be totally unsupported. I still have a desktop link that will install Win8 and it ran great with Win8, 8.1. If I install Win8 on it over Vista (upgrade), is 8.1 still a free upgrade? The SSD is a 120 GB Crucial M4. ...
