Re: AC Vent Register Booster, improved cooling in my equipment closet

Just a thought, maybe your problem with shares is related to this: I ran into an issue when I upgraded my file server from WIn7 to Win10 last month. I couldn't access any of the shares on the server from my workstation, even though I had full access previously. By trial and error I figured out that ...

Re: AC Vent Register Booster, improved cooling in my equipment closet

My file server (not in that photo, it's in my office closet) is just a Win10 Pro PC, with two 6TB spinners and a boot SSD. You don't really need a server OS, unless you have more than 10 simultaneous connections.

Re: AC Vent Register Booster, improved cooling in my equipment closet

Initial setup was simpler: 2 switches (trusted & untrusted network), no NAS servers, and it was a joy to setup in the same way I install network panels in businesses. I located the main cable TV amplifier in there for ease of access, as well as the security camera CCTV DVR, and a small punch blo...

Re: AC Vent Register Booster, improved cooling in my equipment closet

Just had to. I was having a persistent issue with the webcam and tablets I use as a baby monitor in my Dad's room. The video would keep locking up after a few hours. I had been blaming it the last month on the app, but then I noticed the other day that anything on Wifi that tried to pull more than 7...

AC Vent Register Booster, improved cooling in my equipment closet

A lot of my networking gear, and two NAS servers, and CCTV is all located near the ceiling of my tall pantry closet in the new house. When we built the house I didn't take into consideration how hot it would get in there. To be fair, there is a LOT more gear in there now than there used to be. Temps...

Re: Best Buy’s Geek Squad hit by mass layoffs this week

Wow I think you're 25 years out of date. Burger King USED to be a starter job. It likely still is for some people. For others it's just A job.

Around here it's maybe 50% young people, 35% retirees that need some extra money to make ends meet on Social Security, and a few 30 somethings.

Re: Allway Sync

Well I was forced to find a replacement for Allway Sync when I built a new file server a couple of weeks ago. I found an excellent replacement that's free and open source called FreeFileSync: https://freefilesync.org/ Does everything Allway did, but better, with a much cleaner and easier to understa...

Re: Pilot Dies! Passenger TRIES To Land Plane!

Movie done. It flopped. If you watch the trailer the thumbnail tells it all. In the movie his wife is helping him fly the plane. So right off the bat, total fabrication. In reality the pilot's body would have been impossible to remove during flight, and part of what makes this a compelling story is ...

Re: Spinrite 6.1 Alpha Release 8

BPlayer: Now on to the next release. Maybe in 18 months I will be able to run a pre-release version Spinrite 7.0 on the SSD in my UEFI laptop. STEVE: I believe that's a reasonable assumption. A lot of the infrastructure we'll need for the various pieces are already in place since they are reusable,...

Re: Spinrite 6.1 Alpha Release 8

Spinrite 6.1 has been released. You can download it from the same pre-release page for now, but it no longer has an expiration date.

Steve is working on detailed documentation now.

Re: A store I (think) I can recommend for cheap Windows Keys

BTW: Another store that was highly recommended is https://vendafly.com/

I have no personal experience with them, though. They are reputed to also sell only retail keys.

A store (I think) I can recommend for cheap Windows Keys

https://digitalchillmart.com Found these guys mentioned on some Reddit forums as reputable. They only sell retail keys, not unused OEM keys like a lot of these key vendors. I did some searches on their name and only hear good things. Keys almost always work, and the few people that have had a proble...
