I switched the CDRW to the hard drives IDE cable, as well as the IDE channel, and did likewise to the HD, but it's still the CDRW not being detected sometimes. Making me think that the CDRW is dying, not the mobo. This is extremely confusing. Not to mention I thew a perfectly good PS in the trash wh...

Bad newsss.
Turns out it's NOT my power supply. CDRW will STILL only be detected on odd boots. Guess I'll be getting a new mobo soon.

Shouldn't windows XP work on a low-end system if you: - Disable themes - Disable all effects - Disable all services, other than necessary ones - Disable system restore - Edit SYSOC.INF to remove unnecessary applications (Ie; WINDOWS MESSENGER) - Disable automatic update - Disable remote assistance a...

By the way, I'm thinking of hooking up an 80mm 2-pin fan to the 3-pin system fan connector on the mobo. This a bad idea?

The third pin is only for monitoring RPM's, and isn't really needed.

Got a power supply today, everything seems to be working fine. I'll probably be getting a new mobo soon, anyway. Maybe not 'til I get a decent video-card so I can get away from this on-board video I'm using now... Mind you, I'm only sixteen, and student jobs don't pay as much as I'd like them to, so...

I knew that, I just always refer to this computer as "The Celeron", because it's the only one we own with a Celeron processor, and the only one that has many problems.

Nice try at making me look stupid though, I must admit.

Okay! I think I've found a good one. Ultra X-Connect 500W http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=876412&Sku=ULT31558 These seem to be a reliable brand from what I hear, as well as all these rewards it recieved, and a LIFETIME warranty. PLUS it's a modular, so I...

Yup. I'm willing to bet that's it, too. Took a look at the PS, and it's a cheapo ATX 300W, had it for 3-4 years. So, how much should I be spending on a new one?

ANOTHER problem with the Celeron. Sheesh.

Again, with the Celeron. Seems I always have problems with this one. Mom's antique PII server is more reliable than this, for god sakes. Anyway, on odd boots the BIOS detects my CD-RW, and more often than not, it DOESN'T detect it. I've tried all jumper settings, switched IDE cables, unplugged and p...

Well. They aren't bulged. And they don't look like the "leaky" caps in that page you linked. There's a reddish, rough substance on top of the caps that look exactly like rust.

As for the black tint on the processor, a friend said that's sometimes normal, depending on the environment.

Rusty caps, black processor?

Cleaned my good ol' Celeron out today. Noticed there are two or three rusty caps below the heatsink! =o Works fine though, and god knows how long those caps were rusty. Mobo is around three years old. Also, when I took the heatsink out, noticed the processor has a little bit of a blackish tint on it...
