Some games support widescreen modes. I haven't had this used (eBay, off lease I assume) 24" CRT all that long so I haven't tried all that many, but HL2 works nicely in wide screen. I've only had one problem so far- If I try to take a screen shot in 2304x1440 (no AA, 8x AF, 6800GT) the game imme...

My main uses: * Writing Code It's a must have for software development IMHO. Well, not a must have unless you want to maximize efficiency. I run 3 screens at home- 2x19" on the sides and a 24" Sony GDM-FW900 widescreen CRT in the middle (gotta love eBay). Usually I'll have reference docume...

I don't know what the hell happened, but I just toasted an MSI K7D Master-L and an Antec True 550W. Something burnt all the 5V connections between the PSU and mobo. Short? Overload? Surge? My best guess is a short since I heard something rattling around when I took it apart. I think the PSU might ac...

Seems like a good move really. From what I've read the cheap version (16MB ram, 1 chip) is edging out the X300SE and the 32MB (2 chip) onboard memory model can knock off the X300. Of course the performance gap isn't much, but there's certainly a cost difference. I bet these will be in pre-built syst...

I wouldn't worry about it. Before I rearranged my drives (moved FC-AL to another machine, added SCSIs to make up the space) and opened up some space under the card I was hitting 110C under load with mine. It didn't seem to cause any problems, though naturally I wasn't about to try OCing it. It's dow...

As far as specs go, look for contrast and perhaps brightness (depending on the room... you don't need a bright screen in a non-bright room) unless she games. The usual 25ms is fine for a non-gamer. That works out to 40fps, which is faster than the 30fps video puts out, so it'll be fine.

It's not hard to find 5.25" USB enclosures. They're meant for CD-Rom drives of course, but a lot fo them list hard drive support as well. I'd think you could just stick a drive cage into one. The catch is that based on a quick search @ NewEgg this really only works for PATA. I couldn't find any...

Props for killing the floppy. That just seems like it should be hard to do. I've never had a floppy develop a problem that a good cleaning couldn't cure. This reminds me of the time a lightning strike took out my DSL modem & nic card. I was using an old 486 as a firewall/fileserver/router machin...

They could have just popped loose. My dad's had to fix a couple on the string of tauruses and sables they went through, and every time the actuator just popped loose. Dad just tied 'em back down w/ a piece of wire. Of course if that is the problem you should be able to hear them clanking around when...
