I copied off Linux and made a partition for the virtual memory at the beginning of the hard drive. You can do this using partition magic, or when you initially set up Windows. For all systems I build, I use this scheme: [Outer edge of HD (fastest)] [Inner Edge of HD (slowest)] |---------------------...

Fanboy? Who would use such a queer and dorky word, especially when discussing automobiles. :D Certain import makes have higher perceived quality than their domestic counterparts, however that whole "imports are reliable and high quality; domestics are crap" mentality is simply not true for...

I don't have any pics of my own benchmarks, but if you check out storagereview or 2cpu forums, you'll find that quite a few people have discovered the same thing. Do a search on the topic of "ide raid" or something along those lines. The raid controller integrated into most motherboards do...

Actually, if you use WinXP, you don't need a raid controller...just two available IDE channels for Raid 0. :) Check out: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Disk Management A dynamic disk will be faster than low end Raid controllers (like the ones built into motherboards), but you will not be abl...

Assuming two identical hard drives with identical MTBF, both drives have exactly the same chance of failing. It's not a linear equation, since only one drive needs to fail in both cases. Having two drives does not increase the likelyhood of having one drive fail, since both drives have the same MTBF...

As the name implies, it is still firmware (Exstensible FIRMWARE Interace). I believe the article's reference to using a special partition for the EFI on the HD is to allow for more storage space -- not for the EFI system itself. Drivers and utilities could be stored on the partition, rather than bei...

WIth a single drive or raid-0, drive failure is not an issue -- because either way you lose all or most of your data. Only one drive needs to fail to mess things up in both cases, therefore the risk level is the same for both situations. There is no fault tolerance in a single drive system, or a rai...

Aw, you didn't get any good shots of that chick. :)

But the car seems like it would be fun to drive around in.

American cars outsell "imports" by approximately 3 to 1...so if both american and import cars had the same amount of defective units, there would be 3 times as many defective american cars -- but in fact, there are not that many defective american cars. I've had no reliability or quality i...

I manage a steady 15 MPG average city+hwy combined with my WS6, and when I have "fun" it may drop to 14 MPG. On roadtrips, I have no problem getting 22-25 MPG while cruising at 80 MPH. While there is no doubt that the newer I4 engines get better fuel economy, they can get just as thirsty w...

The RX-8 would be nice if it had some balls (low-end torque). Mazda mentioned if the RX-8 does well, they may bring back a turbo RX-7...as a rule of thumb, if it is > 14s in the 1/4 mile it is slow. The new GTO will have the LS1 V8 engine, which will pump out around 350+ HP or possibly the LS6, whic...

I would call a car that is fast and handles well a sports car, and the Trans AM and Stang fit the bill. The dictionary definition is "A car with a high power to weight ratio", which is reasonable, but not what I'd call the final say. My Trans AM can pull about .94G and has great handling c...

Just to throw out another perspective...I have been using non-intel systems since 1995. My last intel CPU was a Celeron 300A...since then I have gotten buy with an AMD Duron, then an Athlon XP. About two weeks ago, I put a system together for myself...and I am happily using a P4 2.4 GHz. AMD used to...

For the record, I RMA'ed it through Abit and had a brand new card within a week. Abit is really on the ball with their RMA system. Anyway, the fan on the video card was a Thermaltake GF4 Cooler, and it uses a 4-pin connector. My fan control also uses 4-pin connectors. Not that it matters if wires ar...

Have a look at this article for more info/pics of the drive. It's not a current model, so it may not be on Memorex's website...but it should still be in the support section. You may need to try the japanese site. http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Specific.asp?ArticleHeadline=Ricoh+MP9120A+CD%...
