Thanks for the quick reply man. Here we go:
mobo - I wish I could remember exactly. Some variety of KTX (or KTV?).. damn. Something fast, sorry.
cpu - Athlon/Duron 1.1ghz
room temp - a bit warm, around 80 or so in the summer ( I don't keep it air conditioned)
previous cpu temps - up around 130-140far, using the stock $10 cpu fan....
RE: thermal grease, the shop I bought it from installed it before, I put it on myself installing the Aero. Don't think I got too much, just a dab right on the little center square. BTW, why would too much grease cause a problem?
Also, where do you get the temp sensor you mentioned to go on the bottom of the cpu?
And are the mobo sensors usually erring on the high side? That would be good. I'll see how it all goes with the video encoding, if it's nice and stable time after time, then I'll know I'm home. They told me that heat could indeed be a factor, and I've seen for myself on an old Celeron that the system locked up when the fan started going out. Cheers,
